What Is a Brat Generator?
It's a free online tool that turns any text into the instantly recognizable Charli XCX "brat" look. Here's what it does, why the trend took off, and everything you can make with one.
The quick answer: A brat generator is a free online tool that recreates the visual style of Charli XCX's 2024 album Brat. You type your own text, and the tool renders it in the album's signature look: lowercase letters, a flat lime-green background, and a slightly blurred, stretched font. You can then download the result as an image to share.
If you've scrolled TikTok or Instagram any time since mid-2024, you've seen the format even if you didn't know its name: a plain green square with one fuzzy lowercase word in the middle. A brat generator is simply the tool people use to make their own version of that, with whatever text they want.
Where the Brat Trend Came From
The whole thing started with one album cover. When Charli XCX released Brat in June 2024, the artwork deliberately broke the usual rules of pop design: no artist photo, no fancy graphics, just an oversaturated green background with the title in stretched, low-resolution lowercase type. It was polarizing at first, then it became one of the most copied visual styles in recent memory.
Part of why it spread so fast is that it's almost effortless to recreate. The look is so simple that anyone can remake it with their own words, which is exactly what people did, by the millions. The trend even crossed into politics in 2024 when it was adopted by a US presidential campaign, cementing "brat" as cultural shorthand far beyond the music itself.
How a Brat Generator Works
Under the hood, a brat generator does a few things automatically that you'd otherwise have to do by hand in design software:
- Sets your text in lowercase, matching the cover style.
- Applies the stretched, blurred font treatment that defines the look. (For the full breakdown of the typeface, see our guide on what font is brat.)
- Drops it onto the signature brat green background (hex #8ACE00), or another color of your choice.
- Lets you download the finished image, usually as a high-resolution PNG with no watermark.
The best part is that everything happens in your browser. There's no software to install, no account to create, and with our tools, nothing is uploaded to a server.

A brat generator is more flexible than the single album-cover format suggests. Common uses include:
Social media posts
Instagram and TikTok covers, story backgrounds, and feed graphics.
Profile pictures
A bold, recognizable brat-style avatar.
Memes
The format works perfectly as a reaction or caption meme.
Playlist & album art
Square covers for your own mixtapes and playlists.
Lyric & quote graphics
Turn a favorite line into a shareable image.
Merch & print mockups
Stickers, shirts, and zine layouts in the brat style.
Different tools specialize in different formats. Beyond the main image tool, you can use a dedicated brat meme generator for photo captions, a word generator for the single-word format, or a video generator for animated versions.
Is It Free, and Is It Official?
Most brat generators, including ours, are completely free with no sign-up. As for "official," there's an important distinction: Atlantic Records and Charli XCX launched their own brat generator on the album's website during the campaign, but the many fan-made tools (this site included) are independent and not affiliated with the artist or label. They simply recreate a publicly recognizable visual style.
